The renovation aimed to create a space that was consistent with the food -- natural, textured, and delightful. The existing space had rough brick walls and smooth concrete floors. The design maintains those textures and adds wood with three different treatments– solid natural white oak tables, ebony stained seating benches/serving counters and white stained ceiling boards. I designed, prototyped, and installed a black rope installation that animates the space as the only source of decoration. Inexpensive fluorescent strip lights are installed on a diagonal through the space and covered with a gel that modulates the light.
My principal role in this project was directing all FFE coordination with the clients. Through this process I established working relationships with local, domestic, and international vendors, artists, and manufacturers. I also established methods and guidelines for future FFE endeavors for the firm.
My involvement in the project centered around developing several schemes via the schematic and design development phases, ultimately resulting in a combination hybrid that met the clients’ expansion needs.
